I want you to enjoy this email, but I also want you to understand the idea behind it even if you’re not as chronically online as I am. So here’s a succinct explanation of what “No Context Post” means to help you be better informed:
No context screenshot accounts are social media pages (often on X/Twitter, Instagram, or TikTok) that post screenshots without any additional explanation, caption, or context. These screenshots can be from TV shows, movies, games, texts, tweets, or other media—and they’re typically funny, absurd, emotionally powerful, or weird on their own, without needing background information.
Hope that helps. Here we go.
Some days I look in the mirror after decisions I’ve made and say,
And the world looks right back at me and says,
And I’m like, oh, yeah, totally. That’s what I was thinking. I’m going to do that. That’s exactly the decision I’m going to make. I’m going to choose not to be shitty. To my family, my friends, my partner, and most importantly, to myself.
After that talk, things go well for a while. (probably a few days, weeks if I’m lucky)
Then, before I know it, I catch myself slowly falling into old patterns…but I quickly start telling myself I’m not going to let it happen.
I caught the pattern as it was emerging!
Which means I can do better this time!
I can make new decisions—better decisions!
It’s starting to feel like I’m…
Aaaaaand—I fall into the same cycle as before
But that’s okay because once again I’m looking in the mirror saying,
I forgive myself because, of course, I should. Then the person in the mirror looks right back at me and says,
And I respond,
And I stand there staring at myself with the utmost confidence in every word I’ve said…
And I might’ve mentioned it happens every few weeks, but to be honest…
Sometimes the only thing I can do is
Every day I’m working on getting better, and every day I question whether it’s actually working. Finally, I decide to confront myself again because I seem to be in the same place I was when I started this “journey.”
So I look in the mirror (yet again) and ask, “Did you forget what we’ve been working towards?”
At this point it just feels like an eternal back and forth. A game of self-chicken that I’m constantly losing, yet always winning—to my own detriment.
Standing there, staring at myself like,
While the mirror stares back like,
But I’m still like,
And the mirror,
You know what? What if maybe I…
But the mirror’s still there, like,
And I can’t help but to…
That’s when the mirror knows it won
But I’m still standing there. Hoping, wishing, thinking that if I stare long enough, some form of divine intervention will come down and show me the way. Light the path. Tell me exactly what needs to be done. There’s still hope. There’s always hope.
Because deep down I know I’m trying to get the results while avoiding the work.
The first thing I need to do is get myself out of this funk, out of this quicksand that is taking me down. I have to remove myself from the situation and take a few steps back so I can actually do the work. I need to focus on
Until
If you’re still reading, you’re probably wondering what’s the point of this email. What am I writing? What is he trying to say? What is david going through? 🤨
On one hand, this is a very creative and novel way to express your ideas, but on the other hand…
Because I’m using someone else’s words (out of context) to express very complicated feelings..
You think it was easy to put this together?
To share these feelings?
I’m asking you, but maybe I should really be questioning me…🤔
Let’s pick this back up next week.
